I produced this illustration / digital painting based on a sketch which I created during October '17, as part of the INKtober Challenge.

This Cosmonaut is arguably inspired by the design of H.R. Giger's "Space Jockey" for the original ALIEN film, which later inspired that of the Engineers from PROMETHEUS, the prequel to ALIEN. Nevertheless, there are several modifications and adaptations of my own, including some details on his chest, his blonde hair atop his head, and the chariot inspired transport he's using, because, originally, this is the depiction of an original character. Precisely, this is the redesign of an original character which I created as a 8 years old, back in 2002-2003. His name was Cidkák (I have later referred to him as Cid'Kaak), and he was a celestial God to the fictional, albeit Mayan inspired Klokork civilization (later renamed as Kakist), that knew him by the epithet of the Clouds' Driver, or if you prefer, the Clouds' Jockey.
   
    Cid'Kaak was a god of culture and civilization, who reportedly came from a distant planet and taught the Kakists' ancestors some stuff, that's if he didn't also modified their evolution somehow. His enemy was a typhonic, chthonian entity named Vulcanid who lived beneath a volcano, waiting for his revenge. Poetry was written in honor to Cid'kaak, he was also a personal god to the third Klokork (and "first Kakist", following the reforms he did on several policies and also culture) ruler, Yuchilactaran - the Poet King. Yuchilactaran, "Yuchi" for short was the protagonist of the first series of stories which would ultimately evolve into the past history of the universe of  BYDURAK (stories that I created and never published, between 2001 and 2008, when I was 7 to 14 years old). I have partially abandoned this series, to favor another original fiction story project (that mixes science fiction, fantasy, mythology and especially pre-columbian influences), currently titled IXIPTLA (from the nahuatl, meaning "impersonator"). Yet, not only IXIPTLA draws a lot of inspiration from BYDURAK and its story arcs, quite often I find myself redesigning characters from childhood and renovating some obscure story arcs, such as the shonen paced "Spirit Fight Tournament", that originally took place in 2004.

    On the Spirit Fight, Cid'Kaak is the ultimate, god-class guardian spirit of Nina Roux (a.k.a THE WASP), leader of the "AAF Team". Nina is a 14 years old descendant of the Kakists and Nibelangs (an invading people which conquered and thus mixed with the Kakists) who used to be obssessed with Yuchi's poetry years ago. She's the friendly rival and (a) love interest of the story's protagonist, "Byduchi". Earlier, Byduchi has fought Cid'Kaak, who opposed him because he descended from a traditional enemy of the Kakists - the "Cebolitics". In the SPIRIT FIGHT story arc, more about Cid'Kaak's true nature is revealed: he's from the same species as Mysta'Tal, Aulta'Tal (later known as SPECTRO the Elder) and SPECTRO II (although the later is an A.I), all antagonists, and belonging to a race of cosmonauts who has manipulated evolution across different planets. Cid'Kaak is especially believed to be related to the destruction of some civilizations, arguably because humans didn't turn out the way he'd like, but the Klokorks (or Yuchilactaran, an extraordinary individual) were an exception. The fact that the Kakists have been conquered and disgraced by the Nibelangs can be explained that Yuchi forgot his ways, rather adopting those of the cebolitics (warfare, blood sacrifice, cannibalism), and Cid'Kaak felt betrayed and abandoned his people. The fact that he becomes Nina's guardian also explains that Nina restored his faith in humanity, perhaps because she and her team are the only survivors of a time-reset which occurred in their dimension by the hands of a fiend created by SPECTRO, powered by the Spear of Time stolen from the interdimensional guardian known as the Crossbill. This fiend has a personal grudge against Nina, and now with Cid'Kaak's help Nina wants to right some wrongs in time and space, beginning with erasing this senseless A.I. from existance. This way, Nina sees Cid'Kaak as the defender of humanity (or at least a humanity that is worth protecting - people who know how to read and write), while SPECTRO, arguably Cid'Kaak's equal, as the enemy of humanity (for he want to replace it with futuristic dystopian fully-automated A.I.'s).
